Welcome to the Homepage of the GSU Concert Chorale, formerly the South Suburban Chorale.
The GSU Concert Chorale.
Formerly known as the South Suburban Chorale
this 100+ member chorus will be filling the halls of GSU with beautiful music
as it continues to establish itself as one of the premiere singing ensembles of
the Chicago Southland.
Welcome to the inaugural season of the Governors State
University Concert Chorale!
Under the direction of Albert M. Jackson, the Chorale has performed in concerts throughout the Chicago south suburbs and Northwest Indiana, presenting major works such as Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana, Mozart’s Grand Mass in C minor, Mendelssohn’s Hymn of Praise, the Brahms Requiem, and in recent seasons the Mozart Requiem and Bernstein’s Mass with the Illinois Philharmonic. Most recently, members of the Chorale joined the Lakeshore Symphony Orchestra for a performance of Mahler's Second Symphony.
In 2011 the Chorale embarked on a concert tour of Europe, singing to enthusiastic audiences in the cathedrals of Salzburg, Vienna and Melk, Austria, as well as Prague, Czech Republic. Now, singers from a 50-mile radius gather each week in Sherman Hall at GSU to rehearse and prepare for performances of the world's finest choral literature. For information on joining the Chorale, contact director Albert Jackson at firstname.lastname@example.org or at 708.235.6921.
