E/F Renovation Project

The E/F Renovation Project will provide state-of-the-art science lab facilities for use by GSU students, faculty, and researchers. There are two components of the overall renovation. The larger component, which includes labs for chemistry, biology, physics, astronomy, math, computer science, nursing, communications disorders, occupational therapy, and physical therapy, is funded by the State of Illinois “Illinois Jobs Now” initiative and administered by the Capital Development Board. That component is being constructed in two phases, allowing research and teaching to continue without interruption.

The smaller component, funded through a National Science Foundation grant under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA, the federal economic stimulus package), is for the renovation of biology research facilities. This portion is administered by GSU. The construction will coincide with phase 1 of the CDB project.

The GSU Project Manager for the E/F Renovation is Tim Kosiek, Interim Director for Project Management and Plant Operations.

In keeping with GSU’s commitment to sustainability the completed project will be certified at the LEED® C.I. “Silver” level. It will be only the second facility in Will County to achieve the silver level of certification. For more information on the LEED® rating system visit www.usgbc.org.
