Instructions for Inviting Relatives to Visit

• Complete a letter of invitation.
• Complete Form I-134 (Affidavit of Support), and sign it the presence of a notary public.
• Send both items to relatives. Have them present the I-134 and letter of invitation to the U.S. consulate in their country asking for a visitor's visa.

Reentry for F-1 nonimmigrant traveling outside the U.S.                                            

Effective May 6, 2007, international visitors are no longer required to check out at a U.S. Visit Exit kiosk when leaving the U.S. All other exit procedures remain the same. 

If you are traveling outside or within the U.S., make sure your documents are current. We encourage you to check your passport, visa, and I-20. If you are leaving the country, you will need a travel endorsement on your I-20. It is a good idea to carry your passport, visa, and I-20 while travelling within U.S.

Basic requirements for re-entry into U.S. after traveling abroad

• SEVIS Form I-20, endorsed for travel and signed by your DSO
• Have been out of the U.S. for less than five months
• Current passport valid for at least six months
• Valid current visa
• Financial information showing proof of necessary funds to cover tuition and living expenses

Reentry for F-2 nonimmigrant traveling outside the U.S.

You must have the following:

• Current Form I-20 in your name (endorsed for travel by the DSO in OIS
• Valid current visa
• Primary (F-1) must be in active status.

Continuing Students

You must report to OIS if you:

• have made a change to your program;
• have not completed your coursework as indicated on your study plan/I-20;
• are getting close to the expiration date listed on your I-20; or
• are on administrative hold and are not able to register.

Keep in mind that:

• audit grades are not counted toward full-time enrollment;
• only three credit hours from any online/distance learning can be applied toward full-time requirements each trimester;
• you must update your new address within 10 business days; and
• processing time for any document/form signature is five business days

NOTE : Please let the Office of International Services know prior to the current program end date if there is any chance you may fail a course or receive an incomplete grade.
