The Metropolitan Institute for Leadership in Education supports the professional, leadership and executive development needs of senior education leaders in Southern Cook, Northern Kankakee and Eastern Will County school districts. Our practice areas:

  • Reflect research–based strategic drivers for successful public schools.
  • Are integrated with the University's mission and values.
  • Offer value to the regional educational leaders we serve.

MILE is a thought leader and trusted resource for senior leaders in public education. In the context of a public forum, MILE aggregates best practices for sharing across and within school districts. We collaboratively build and sustain tools and resources for public school partners in meeting the needs of students, teachers, school leaders and related personnel in changing environments. We bring the resources of GSU to help you address matters in your district.

We developed and piloted a Performance-Based Principal Evaluation Plan that meets all Illinois requirements while considering the behaviors that improve the quality of instructional leadership in schools. This plan is used throughout Northern Illinois by nearly 200 principals. The design team of over thirty educators was facilitated by Dr. Joseph Murphy, professor at Vanderbilt’s Peabody College of Education, and a recognized leader in the area of school improvement. To learn more about the GSU Principal Performance-Based Evaluation or to become a partner with GSU in this initiative, email Dr. Donna Joy, Project Leader, at mailto:djoy@govst.edu.
