SIDL Portfolio BrochureWhat is a Portfolio?

A portfolio is a writing intensive process that describes and documents the learning you have gained from life experience.

It is used to make the case that your life learning is comparable to what students generally learn from taking a specific course in a college or university.

For more information, please view or download the portfolio brochure.

Preparing to Write a Prior Learning Portfolio

There are three methods for preparing to write a portfolio.

  1. Purchase the text "Earn College Credit for What You Know," 4th edition, Janet Colvin, The Coucil for Adult and Experiential Learning (2006), which is available through Follets GSU Bookstore.
  2. Attend an on-campus workshop.  The $50 fee includes the portfolio textbook.  Workshops are presented once each term.
  3. Enroll in the course on writing a Prior Learning Portfolio.  IDSS 330 earns you 3 upper division credits and satisfies the GSU technology requirement.
