Graduate Earlier! Students can now graduate sooner by taking summer classes.

The U.S. Department of Education has announced that students may be eligible to receive additional Pell Grant funding for the summer semester. This allows a student to receive Federal Pell Grant funds for up to 150 percent of the student's annual Pell Grant for an award year.  Governors State University will implement "Year Round Pell Grant" beginning in the summer of 2018.

Important Notice: The amount of the Federal Pell Grant funds a student may receive over his or her lifetime is limited by a federal law to be 600 percent. If a student's lifetime eligibility used (LEU) equals or exceeds 600 percent, the student is no longer eligible to receive Pell Grant funding. Students can log on to www.nslds.ed.gov to view their Pell Grant LEU.

To receive a Summer Pell Grant, you must meet the following criteria:

  • You must #DoTheFAFSA for 2017-2018 academic year.
  • You must be making Satisfactory Academic Progress to receive financial aid.
  • You must qualify for a 2017-2018 Federal Pell Grant.
  • You must complete a GSU Summer Aid Application.
  • You must maintain enrollment in at least one class for the summer 2018 term if you did not exhaust your PELL eligibility in fall/spring, or be enrolled ½ otherwise in order to receive PELL.
