University Park, IL, October 7, 2008 – The Friends of the Governors State University Library are beginning their second year with a new slate of officers and a renewed commitment to continuing their successful work of the previous year.
Becky and Jim Nugent of Matteson will serve as co-presidents of the Friends. Kelley Nichols of Chicago Heights is vice president. The secretary is Dianne Kronika of Bourbonnais, and Jean Malloy of Evergreen Park will serve as treasurer.
During the coming year, the Friends will build on their previous success with more friend and fund raising activities. They will continue to sponsor a book discussion group, the Friends of Mysteries, a Library Historical Society, as well as writers groups for those interested in writing novels and children’s stories.
Fund raising activities begin on October 14 with a bake sale, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., in the Hall of Governors. The focus of the sale is chocolate.
A silent auction will be held on October 15, from noon to 7 p.m., in the Hall of Governors. Items up for bid include restaurant gift certificates, certificates for wine tastings, therapeutic massages, dry cleaning, and a wide variety of additional items.
