Participants sought for American Psychological Association video series

University Park, April 22, 2004—Governors State University is seeking clients to work with top psychologists and counselors in several video series the university is producing for the American Psychological Association (APA).

"We're looking for people who need the advice and guidance of a psychologist or counselor," said GSU Psychology professor Kim Snow. "We give them the opportunity to have a session with the most recognized experts in the field. Sometimes, that's enough to have a significant impact on an individual's life."

Snow said clients and their sessions will be video-taped as part of the APA video series. Clients also receive a $50 stipend for their participation.

Sessions will be taped between May and October. The sessions are geared toward a variety of topics including spirituality, brief affective therapy, bullies, abuse, and harm reduction in high school students.

Snow said, though the sessions are one-time for the series, clients may be referred to the university's counseling lab for ongoing services.

"We're working on a video series, but our main objective remains helping people,” Snow explained. "For many of our clients, the single session will help significantly. But for those who need ongoing counseling, we're here to help them receive that, too."

The videos are recorded in the university's newly renovated studios.
Dr. Jon Carlson, and internationally recognized author, counselor, and GSU professor of Counseling, is the series' executive producer.

The completed videos will be used in graduate-level training of counselors and psychologists.
