World Water Day Forum at GSU

University Park, IL, February 27, 2009 – The focus of World Water Day 2009 is “Shared Water – Shared Opportunities.” Encouraging understanding among young people of the importance of managing water resources today to ensure an adequate supply in the future is the focus of a forum at Governors State marking World Water Day.

The forum, sponsored by Governors State University and the Homewood Rotary Club, will be held on Wednesday, March 18, from 12:15 to 3 p.m., in The Center for Performing Arts. The event will include presentations on the current state of the water supply around the world, what is being done to improve access and quality, and what can be done in the future. The event is free and open to the public.

World Water Day was first designated by the United Nations in 1992 to draw worldwide attention to the serious problem of access to safe drinking water and basic sanitation. “This year’s forum invites participants to learn how to be water advocates,” says Vreni Mendoza, Director of the GSU Office of International Services, coordinator of the event.

Governors State University is located at 1 University Parkway, University Park, Illinois. For more information, call (708) 534-3087.
