GSU Lowers Tuition for Indiana Residents

University Park, IL, April 30, 2010 – For Northwest Indiana students, Governors State University in University Park, Illinois offers outstanding, affordable educational opportunities in 22 bachelor’s degree programs. Indiana undergraduate students now qualify for the same low in-state tuition paid by Illinois residents at Governors State University (GSU).

GSU’s commitment to offering an exceptional educational opportunity was extended to undergraduate students in Indiana in a recent decision by the university’s Board of Trustees. Prior to the Board’s action, the out-of-state tuition was three times the Illinois rate. GSU offers the most affordable in state tuition and fees in northern Illinois.

“The decision by the Board of Trustees opens our doors to qualified students from Indiana. It provides for greater educational choice and offers affordable tuition for our twenty-two undergraduate programs,” said Dr. Carol Cortilet-Albrecht, Assistant Vice President of Enrollment Services.

Located in University Park, GSU is within a half-hour drive of many Northwest Indiana communities. Class times are flexible to meet the needs of busy students with families, jobs, and other responsibilities.

GSU is an upper-division university where coursework begins at the junior level. Founded in 1969, GSU has decades of experience helping transfer students from two-year institutions accomplish their dream of earning a bachelor’s degree.

A number of GSU majors – in Art, Communication Disorders, English Teacher Education, Health Administration, Interdisciplinary Studies, and Social Sciences – are not offered at Northwest Indiana’s public universities.

GSU has four colleges: Health and Human Services, Arts and Sciences, Education, and Business and Public Administration. All offer life-changing opportunities to GSU’s students and prepare them for vital occupations that make a difference in today’s society.

GSU also has master’s, doctoral, and certificate programs. The university follows rigorous academic standards and is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. In addition, every academic program has earned appropriate professional accreditation, wherever such accreditation exists and is recognized by the profession.

Governors State University is located at 1 University Parkway, University Park, Illinois. More information is available at (800) 478-8478 or by visiting www.govst.edu/nwi.
