Governors State University Hosts Secondary Education Open House

University Park, October 25, 2006 – The need for well-educated and well-trained high school teachers has never been greater. Current teachers are expected to retire in greater numbers in the coming years and high schools are eager to replace them with qualified teachers who understand the demands of the classroom and the needs of the students.

Governors State University is sponsoring a Secondary Education Open House on November 10, from 4:30 to 7 p.m. for those individuals interested in becoming high school educators. Participants will have the opportunity to meet with program faculty and advisors and learn what a degree and certification in secondary education can mean to their careers and futures.

The university offers secondary education certification degree programs in biology, chemistry, English, and mathematics to students who have completed 60 credit hours or earned an associate’s degree. Graduates of Governors State University are teachers in schools throughout the south suburbs and have continued their educations and enhanced their qualifications to become school leaders and administrators.

The Open House will be held in E-Lounge on the university’s main campus, 1 University Parkway, University Park. For more information on the Secondary Education Open House, call (708) 534-4581.
