University Park, January 5, 2007 – The Governors State University Office of Sponsored Programs and Research and the Provost’s Office honored 50 faculty, staff, and administrators for their success in obtaining grants and contracts to further the university’s educational programs and community outreach at a reception in December.
“Developing and expanding educational and research opportunities almost always costs more money. Today we are celebrating the hard work and determination needed to discover and earn these important funds,” said Dr. Paul Keys, Provost.
According to Dr. Mary Watson, Interim Director of the Office of Sponsored Programs and Research, “These grant writers work hard and fit this task in with their many other duties. The broad range of activities and scope of the research that is grant-supported at GSU is truly impressive.”
Among the many grants earned in the past year by GSU faculty and staff were funds used to support children’s programs at the Family Development Center, expanded community health outreach programs, development of new curricula, expanded internship opportunities for undergraduate students, and the establishment and development of research centers affecting access to healthcare, crime prevention, and small businesses development.
