Governors State University Announces University-Wide Open House

University Park, Illinois, February 27, 2007 – Governors State University will hold a university-wide Open House on Saturday, March 24, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. and is followed by an opening session for all attendees at 10 a.m. At 10:30 a.m. prospective students and parents will also be able to meet, one-on-one, with Governors State faculty, academic advisors, and financial aid counselors.

General information about the university as well as information sessions on transfer requirements, financial aid, and specific undergraduate and graduate programs will be available. “We’ve created a solid agenda to help potential students at both the undergraduate and graduate levels understand the quality of GSU’s 47 bachelor’s, master’s, and doctorate degree programs and to learn about the support services that are available to them,” said Randy Tumblin, Director of Admissions and Student Enrollment.

“Potential students will find out exactly what they’ll need to become a successful student here.”

In addition to conversations with specific program advisors, special information sessions will also be offered by the School of Interdisciplinary Learning and the Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, and Clinical Psychology master’s degree programs. The break out sessions will offer more in-depth information on the demands and rewards of participating in these programs.

According to Tumblin, “Governors State University continues to be both affordable and accessible for students in the region. In addition to being reasonably priced, we offer financial aid to both full and part time students. We also offer classes on campus, online, and at conveniently located locations in Naperville, Kankakee, and the Thompson Center in Chicago.”

Representatives from the university’s Office of Career Services will conduct a workshop at Open House to prepare students for employment and new career opportunities. The Open House will also feature tours of the university, refreshments, and a raffle drawing.

“We are glad to show off all that GSU has to offer and why we should be their first choice for higher education,” adds Tumblin.
