Doreena Durbin—SIDL Graduate, September 2001

Alumna Doreena Durbin"I attended an orientation session at GSU for the Interdisciplinary Studies degree program.  I was fascinated by the idea that I could actually earn credits towards a degree based on life experiences.  I knew that I had learned more from the hard knocks of life than I could have ever learned in school.  Here was an opportunity to convert those experiences into credit hours."

"The most common way to advance in a career is to get a formal education, but for some people, experience is the best teacher.  Obtaining a college degree may initially seem unachievable, difficult and problematic, but the IDSS program allows one to convert life experiences into school credits. I am grateful and honored that I have earned my B.A. degree at Governors State University."
