Mission Statement

The Master of Public Administration Program (MPA) degree program in Governors State University's College of Arts and Sciences, prepares students to serve as administrators in the nonprofit sector, all levels of government, and private organizations.  The MPA program provides a high quality education to a diverse student body, while engaging in scholarly activities and community service.  The program encourages students to become civically engaged and advances students' practical knowledge for career advancement in the nonprofit, public, and private sector.  The MPA curriculum is designed to offer courses that emphasize the importance of ethics, how to solve complex organizational dilemmas, and implement sustainable solutions.

The Public and non-profit sectors need managers who are efficient, effective, equitable and accountable.  The MPA degree is designed to give managers and professional advocates the knowledge and skills necessary to serve in federal, state, and local branches of government, social service agencies, and non-profit organizations - and do it better!

A GSU MPA degree equips the everyday heroes who serve communities in need with theory, methods, and practice to apply critical thinking and develop viable solutions to today's public problems.  First responders (police and fire), village managers, public works managers, and social entrepreneurs will benefit from advanced public administration training.

Going far beyond the basic finance and human resources coursework, a GSU MPA provides public managers with community engagement skills in social and restorative justice, entrepreneurship, professional advocacy, and more.

Learn from faculty with experience on the front lines of service just like you.  With the program motto, "Knowledge is power," our faculty believe that education is the catalyst for personal evolution that empowers community change.

Advance your career in government, advocate for social reform,  or encourage politicians and community leaders to find innovative solutions to address old problems. Maximize your career growth with a joint degree in Criminal Justice Studies

Best of all, your public administration education is attainable.  With convenient online and evening classes, that next level of leadership awaits.

Take the next step.
