Student Progress

The Educational Administration program faculty monitor and evaluate student progress continually. The section "Teacher Certification" in the Governors State University Catalog provides a general description of the standards used to evaluate student progress. A more detailed statement of the standards and processes followed by the educational administration faculty is available in the Educational Administration Student Handbook.

The Educational Administration faculty has identified decision points at which each candidate's performance is assessed to determine if appropriate knowledge, skills, and dispositions are evident in candidate work.  These decision points are referred to as gateways.  A positive faculty recommendation based upon formal assessments is required at each program gateway in order for candidates to proceed toward program completion.  The program faculty has instituted a formal Student Progress Committee that is responsible for all critical gateway assessments.  The program's gateways are as follows:

  • Program Admission
    • University Admissions Office materials
    • Graduate Advisement Center materials
  • Candidacy Review
  • Practica
    • Practicum I
    • Practicum II
  • Comprehensive Examination
  • Graduation Approval
  • Recommendation for Certification

Under special circumstances, program faculty may permit a candidate who is not making acceptable progress to proceed under conditional continuation.  Read more about it.
