Systems Design

  • Overall systems design and project coordination for complete systems renovation and digital TV conversion at Governors State University including 2 TV studios, 2 control rooms,central routing, machine room, 4 edit suits with shared storage, plus new on-air automation, and integration with satellite up/downlinks, microwave and campus technical infrastructure.
  • Designed and constructed complex multi-suite post-production systems, analog and digital. Designed multi-format component editing suite that was singled out for demonstration purposes to personnel from NBC network news and other professional producers.
  • Beta-testing programs for Avid/SoftImage DS, a high end digital video finishing system and for earlier generations of video editors/software.
  • Designed sound reinforcement systems for concerts, meetings halls and houses of worship.

Consultancies and Special Projects

  • Audio-Visual Education Department of Guangdong Province: collaborated on the development and production of a two part bilingual multimedia course on World History for middle school students in China.Scope of the collaboration included perspectives and content as well as coordinating and producing the English language components.
  • American Psychological Association (APA).Worked with APA, and Dr. Jon Carlson in the ongoing development of 8 separate series of DVD/video programs which are breaking new ground in the training of psychotherapists. Developed a new approach to demonstrating approaches to therapy by the best minds in the field using DVD to provide real-time commentary. These programs and others similar in nature are completely produced at GSU and now total over 100 two hour programs featuring the leading figures in the fields of counseling and psychotherapy.
  • Advisor to Bahá’í International Radio Service on the development of television programming for delivery by satellite broadcast to the Middle East and other areas.
  • Oversee the development of media based university level courses.Courses currently under development include: “Personality Theories,” “Dealing with Diversity,” “Beliefs and Believers” (comparative religion), and “Love 101” (psychology course on developing healthy relationships within and leading up to marriage.
  • Develop new delivery formats for television courses including 8 courses converted to CD-ROM which are being taken by U.S. Navy personnel aboard ships and submarines at sea.Similar offerings for the Army and Coast Guard are in development, all of which meet stringent technical and security requirement of the military.
  • Consultant and overall on-air content reviewer for a 4 hour live telecast from Haifa, Israel involving multiple venues, 12 cameras (including live aerial views), which was transmitted world-wide by satellite and viewed in scores of countries.
  • Guangdong Province, China.Working with faculty at Guangdong Normal University, officials of the Ministry of Education, and the Department of Audio-Visual Education in Guangdong Province to devise and implement strategies for media based education and teacher training on a Province -wide basis. 1999
  • Louhelen School, Davison, MI. Advisory Board to develop educational curriculum and institutional development strategies to transform school into an accredited university.1999.
  • Northeastern Illinois University, Chicago, IL.Math learning strategies research project. Created series of 24 video tapes for research into children’s learning strategies. Project Director, Dr. Breckie Church, Department of Psychology,. March, 1998.

  • Badiyan Productions, Minneapolis, MN. Crossing Frontiers, a biographical documentary about the life of Madame Ruhiyyih Rabbani. Wrote script and collaborated in shooting over several years with Fred Badiyan, Producer.May 1996.
  • University of Maryland, College Park, MD.Developed informational and promotional programs which were instrumental in successful efforts to raise $500,000 for an endowed chair in the Center for International Development and Conflict Resolution. March 1996.
  • University of Maryland, College Park and Landegg Academy, Wienacht, Switzerland.International Dialogues on Transition to a Global Society. Documented the proceedings, participated in the dialogue and interviewed prominent participants including Federico Mayor (Director-General, UNESCO), Ilya Prigogene (Physicist, Nobel laureate), Bertrand Schnieder, (Secretary, Club of Rome). 1992, 1996.
  • 2ndBahá’í World Congress, New York City. Executive Producer responsible for a 4 hour global satellite broadcast consisting of two hours covering background and first three days of the Congress and two hours live from the Jacob Javits Center in New York. The program had a full orchestra, 500 voice choir and live audience of 30,000 people from 200 countries. The broadcast had a production staff of 75, and included background video inserts and live interactive links with audiences gathered in Moscow, Buenos Aires, Sydney, Nairobi, New Delhi, Western Samoa and Israel. Also coordinated photo documentation of the event. November 1992.
  • Bahá’í World Center, Haifa, Israel.Audio Visual Department and Office of Public Information. Designed and organized multi-lingual post-production program to provide high quality video materials in many languages. Consulted and advised in the development of international distribution. 1992.
  • Bahá’í House of Worship, New Delhi, India.Consultant for sound reinforcement, acoustic treatment and noise control. Captured memorable recordings of multi-national choir performing original music under direction of Ravi Shankar. Subsequently produced award winning documentary on the building project. 1985-88.
  • International Peace Conference, Mosconi Center, San Francisco.Designed stage lighting, co-produced opening and closing pageants, produced main thematic presentation. 1986.
  • WLGI FM, Hemingway, SC. Design consultant working with Harris Corporation to develop design for new radio station. 1983.
 

Productions

  • Foster Pride Digital Curriculum Project.Project Director for this 5 year, $3 million project to develop nine highly sophisticated multimedia training courses for Foster Parents based on the Foster Pride curriculum used in 30 states. Project was funded with a grant from the Fund for the Improvement of Post-Secondary Education (FIPSE) in the U.S. Department of Education and has just been completed. Independent professional evaluators have called it the best media based distance learning materials they have ever encountered.
  • Teaching and Living in China:Lessons from the Fulbright Experience. A 2 hour DVD containing 19 program segments designed to acquaint Americans planning to teach in China with various aspects of teaching, academic life, daily living and other topics of interest and use for their preparation for China. Project was produced in collaboration with the Council for the International Exchange of Scholars and the Hong Kong America Center with a grant from the Fulbright Program.   • Full Circle: Journey Back to Gospel.Television documentary on the connections between gospel and jazz in the life of Kim Prevost, a young jazz singer in New Orleans, whose musical development, like so many others, had its roots in her father’s church in an impoverished quarter of the city.   • Intellectual Property Basics: A Primer for Students and Teachers.A Mandarin language DVD program designed as an introduction to IPR concepts and issues for use in schools in China.. The project was funded with a grant from the U. S. Embassy in Beijing to the Hong Kong America Center in collaboration with Yang Ling of the Audio-Visual Education Department of Guangdong Province and myself from Governors State University. My role as co-producer involved the coordination and stimulation of intensive cross-cultural dialogue on the subject, starting out with American legal experts and progressing gradually to the involvement of numerous Chinese experts to develop a program that is accurate on the issues and presented in a way that is sensible, acceptable and usable in Chinese schools. I also worked closely with the production design and editing albeit at a distance and did the final DVD authoring. The program is being distributed and used by high schools and universities in various parts of China.
  • Charrette in Changdi:Bilingual English/Mandarin documentary on an environmental design charrette focused on the challenges of creating an environmentally sustainable path to development in the Pearl River Delta, one of the most rapidly developing areas on the planet. Co-Producer, Director, Editor.
  • Inside Beijing.Television documentary for American and Chinese audiences.airing in segments in China during, July, 1998, began U.S. PBS airing on WTVI in June 1999, European and Asian distribution in development. Director, writer. (May 1998-March 1999).
  • Reflections at the Nexus: Science Religion & Development.This documentary challenges the paradigms that have guided development efforts worldwide for 50 years in the context of work being done by the leading development NGO’s in India. Director, writer (December 2000).
  • The Bahá’í Newsreel: Profiles of a World Community- Volumes 1-8.
    Newsmagazine program produced three times per year.The English edition has been supplemented by versions in Spanish, French, German, Hindi, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, Portuguese, Swedish, and Persian. This educational program has covered a broad range of stories in nearly 100 countries and is viewed by audiences in even more countries. Executive Producer. (1989 -1998).
  • National Teleconferenceto 45 cities originated from the National Bahá’í Convention, Rosemont, IL. Producer. (April, 1997).
  • The Parliament of the World’s Religions. This educational public information program aired widely and greatly helped in generating support for the ambitious international program of the 1993 Parliament. Producer.(March 1994).
  • The Bahá’í World Congress.Produced one hour documentary for national cable broadcast in the U.S. and Canada after the event (December 1993). Also produced a ten hour documentary series on the congress. (February 1994).
  • Jewel in the Lotus.With more visitors than the Taj Mahal or the Eiffel Tower, The Lotus shaped Bahá’í temple in New Delhi widely regarded as one of the greatest architectural achievements of the century. This Award winning documentary tells its story. The program has been translated to many languages and aired to more than a billion people. Writer, Producer. (1991).

  • The Promise of World Peace.Twelve Projector wide screen multi-image program, shown at Mosconi Center, San Francisco, the Asian Games Stadium in New Delhi, India, and the University of Chicago before being installed as a featured exhibit at the Visitor=s Center of the Bahá’í House of Worship, Wilmette, IL for ten years.
