Auditions for Ragtime The Musical - Continued
Auditions will be held Wednesday, May 18, and Thursday, May 19 in Sherman Recital Hall at Governors State University. Invited callbacks will be Sunday, May 22. Performance dates are July 30, 31 and August 5, 6, and 7, 2011.
Please download, print, and complete the audition form and conflict sheet found at www.slatetheatre.org and bring it to your audition. Then visit www.mysignup.com/ragtime to schedule your audition time. You will be asked to provide a code that will allow you to change or cancel your audition time. If you sign-up and realize you cannot make the audition, please cancel as soon as possible to free up your slot for another actor. SLATE does NOT charge a production fee, however, all cast members are required to sell a minimum of 12 (twelve) tickets to the production. Prizes will be awarded to the top 5 highest selling cast members.
Preparation
Prepare a one minute song selection from musical theatre that shows off your vocal range. You may sing from Ragtime, but are not required to. Memorize your audition piece, and, as Ragtime is almost all music (very little spoken dialogue), prepare a piece that highlights your ability to act through song. Please bring music in the proper key - an accompanist will be provided. Accapella singing is NOT ALLOWED. If you wish to sing from Ragtime, you do not need sheet music, but be sure to check keys, as vocal selections and full scores are not always in the same key.
A dance call will follow the vocal audition, please dress comfortably, have appropriate footware and be prepared to move.
Please audition regardless of your conflicts. Rehearsals will be scheduled after the show is cast to accommodate conflicts. Just be honest, and we will work around your schedule the best we can.
Casting Information
Ragtime features a cross section of Americans; performers of all ages, ethnicity, shapes and sizes are encouraged to audition. We will be looking to cast between 40-50 actors. Ragtime requires a diverse cast and provides great opportunities for featured and leading roles for African American singers/dancers/actors ages 16+.
Featured roles are available for two caucasian children (one male, one female) ages 8-13 as well as for other ensemble children and young-adults (15 and under). Children do not have a separate audition date.
Please follow all instructions. Children must be at least 8 years old to audition.
