The Bachelor of Arts in Early Childhood Education will prepare you to begin a successful career as a classroom teacher for children from birth through grade three. Teacher education courses will expand your knowledge of primary curricula and teaching methodology while providing strong preparation in the knowledge, skills and disposition reflective of the professional standards identified by NAEYC and NCATE accrediting agencies. The Early Childhood Education study sequence provides students with an integrated academic approach that connects pedagogical theory to on-site field applications, and culminates in a 15 week supervised student teaching experience. The Early Childhood Education Program is fully approved by the Illinois State Board of Education to prepare you for teacher certification as well as early childhood special education approval.

Completion of this program (and compliance with other requirements published in the "Teacher Certification" section of the Governors State University catalog ) leads to the Illinois Type 04 Early Childhood Education certificate for birth through grade three. Individuals applying for the certificate or the endorsement are subject to state testing requirements. The program can also be configured to include the early childhood special education approval with the Type 04 certificate.
