Upcoming Events

The following are the events hosted by OIS for the Spring 2013 semester:

March 26th Women and Innovation in a Global Society, Engbretson Hall 3:00 pm- 4:30 pm 

We are celebrating International Women’s day and Women’s History Month by hosting a discussion and presentation in Engbretson Hall on contributions women have made in various countries around the world, including India and Somalia. Please join us for some coffee, tea, and food and awesome company!

 

March 28th- Optional Practical Training Workshop in D3345 at 10:00 am - 11:00 am 

In collaboration with Career Services we will be presenting a workshop on the process on how to file for Optional Practical Training, work authorization granted through USCIS for a period of 12 months. Find out about when to file, what you need to submit, and regulations specifically pertaining to Optional Practical Training including the 90 days of unemployment rule. Career Services will be presenting on the topic of Building a Resume.

 

April 9th- Optional Practical Training Workshop in C3330 at 10:00 am- 11:00 am

Find out about when to file, what you need to submit, and regulations specifically pertaining to Optional Practical Training including the 90 days of unemployment rule. Career Services will be presenting on the topic of Job Search Strategies.

 

April 15th- Optional Practical Training Workshop in D34060 at 2:00 pm- 3:00 pm 

In collaboration with Career Services we will be presenting a workshop on the process on how to file for Optional Practical Training, work authorization granted through USCIS for a period of 12 months. Find out about when to file, what you need to submit, and regulations specifically pertaining to Optional Practical Training including the 90 days of unemployment rule. Career Services will be presenting on the topic of Interviewing.

 

April 19th- Nathan Manilow Sculpture Park Tour with International Services. Please meet us in the Hall of Governors near the patio doors facing the lake at 12:45 pm for the tour of the sculpture park. 

Please join us for a tour of the Nathan Manilow Sculpture Park surrounding Governors State University with the tour being led by Geoffrey Bates, curator of Nathan Manilow Sculpture Park. If you want to attend this event, please come to my office in C3370 and sign up for the tour. We will meet in the Hall of Governors at 12:45 pm on the day of the event.

 

April 26th- Annual Wildflower Pilgrimage at Starved Rock State Park 9:30 am- 5:00 pm TRANSPORTATION PROVIDED for students 

Join us for a trip to Starved Rock State Park and experience the beauty of wildflowers while hiking along trails and seeing the Illinois River, waterfalls hidden in sandstone canyons, and the natural beauty of the outdoors. We will be stopping along the way at a local restaurant to have lunch together, have a guided tour at Starved Rock and explore the park and return home in time for dinner. If you are interested in going, you are required to come to my office to complete a waiver form for this trip. We will be meeting at the Office of International Services and leaving BY 9:30 am for the state park.

 

May 14th- Graduation Party for International Students graduating in Spring and Summer 2013 semesters 3:00 pm- 4:30 pm in the Cafeteria Annex 

Please join us for a celebration of your academic accomplishments at Governors State University. We will have a gift for all of the graduating students from our office! Refreshments, cake and some entertainment will be provided at the party. See you there!
