 Student Research and Scholarship Opportunities

Minority Internship Program (MIP)

The five university consortium differs from traditional internship programs because it is designed specifically for underrepresented students: African-Americans, Hispanics, Asian-Americans (or Pacific Islanders), and American Indians. Historically, these groups have been underrepresented in the process of shaping and implementing public policy.

Applications for the Spring 2013 are currently being accepted until February 5, 2013.  Completed applications must be submitted to the Assistant Dean of Students, Sheree Sanderson in the Student Life Office (A2104).   Students must be available for the MIP interview process.

For additional information contact the Student Life Office.  Applications may also be picked-up in Career Services and the Student Life Offices.

Diversifying Faculty in Illinois (DFI)

The goal of DFI is to increase the number of minority full-time tenure track faculty and staff at Illinois’ two- and four-year, public and private colleges and universities.  Applicants must be admitted to a Master's or Doctoral program at a participating institution at the time of application; and, if awarded, enroll as a full-time student as defined by the institution. Application deadline is February 19th for the following academic year, although individual institutions may set an internal deadline prior to that date for processing purposes.

Both new and renewal applicants must contact Sheree Sanderson, Interim Assistant Dean of Students regarding their intent to apply, or receive additional information.  New applicants must obtain a special access code to complete their online eligibility check.  Priority consideration will be given to applications in STEM areas, particularly mathematics and science.

Deadline for the DFI applications for the 2013-2014 academic year is February 18, 2013, 4pm CST.
