Bon Appetit the Opera
Sunday, March 1 at 4 p.m.
“Bon Appetit!” is a comedy opera mimicking a classic Julia Child television broadcast. Julia, played by the "deeply expressive" Sarah Ponder Brock (Chicago Sun Times), teaches the basics of making a classic French chocolate cake. The score by Lee Hoiby, takes listeners on a musical journey to match the cooking mayhem unfolding before their eyes, in classic Julia Child fashion.
But it's not just about the cake. Songs range from "Be Our Guest" (Beauty and the Beast) and "Fin ch'an dal vino" (Mozart's Don Giovanni) to "Votre Toast" (Bizet's Carmen).
This laugh-out-loud production features familiar musical themes and hilarious, fanatically whisking chef who whips up a decadent masterpiece. And, you get to sample food and wine along with the songs.
Seating is on stage with the performers.
