Governors State University has always been an exciting place – where big ideas live. Our future is full of plans that will keep building on that excitement and on those ideas.

One of our biggest ideas – becoming a four-year university – is close to reality. In the fall of 2014 our first freshman class will become part of our learning community. This will be an exceptional year for the entering class. They will share three study themes – Civic Engagement, Global Citizenship and Sustainability – with courses connected across colleges and departments.
Our entering freshmen will have the opportunity to live in GSU’s first on-campus residence, Prairie Place, along with fellow students in both undergraduate and graduate programs. They’ll find a living space designed for the future of college education. With options in living arrangements and access to in-residence meetings and learning spaces, they’ll find a home that enriches their college experience.
We keep expanding the offerings of GSU to include new majors, new minors, new ways to help our students prepare for their own futures and the changing world. New this year are bachelor’s degree programs in Economics, Political Science, Theatre and Performance Studies as well as a master’s degree in School Psychology.
In our newly renovated 60,000 square foot science wing, GSU students get hands-on experience using state-of-the-market equipment. This redesign and building of our labs and classrooms is the result of a long-term plan and a grant from the National Science Foundation.
