    • Official high school transcript showing a minimum 2.75 unweighted GPA on a 4.0 scale
    • Minimum ACT score of 18 or SAT equivalent (minimum SAT score range of 860-890 when combining Critical Reading plus Math)
    • Academic Personal Statement-Providing a state may benefit students who are near to or below one or both of the listed admission requirements .

    Please note that freshman students are not eligible for admission to the RN to BSN program.

    Freshman degree seeking applicants are admitted to Governors State University at large, but not into a major program of study. Listing an intended major on your application gives your advisor a better idea of your academic goals and how to advise you.

    Once your application is submitted and you have paid the $25 application fee, your application is not complete until your official transcript and test scores have been received. Freshman admission is Fall only. We are currently accepting applications for Fall.

    Request your official ACT or SAT scores be sent to Governors State University by

    Governors State University considers a variety of factors when making admissions decisions. High school grade point average (GPA), course patterns, and standardized test scores are all important considerations. For students whose applications require further review, an optional academic personal statement may help us come to the right decision. If you choose to submit a statement, it will be considered along with your transcript and test score information to determine your eligibility for admission.

    If you choose to submit a statement, it should be approximately 300-500 words and address the following:

    • State why you believe Governors State University is a good fit for your educational goals.
    • Identify and explain your academic strengths and weaknesses.
    • Explain any circumstances which affected your high school academic performance, if applicable.

    • Letter of Admission Decison

      After your application has been processed, you will receive a letter from the Office of Admission with your admission decision. Students who have applied by the early action deadline of November 15 will be notified by December 15 of their admission decision.

      Completed applications received after November 15 will be reviewed on a rolling basis, and students should expect an admission decision within 10-15 business days.

      Please be sure to read your letter of admission carefully. It will include important information about next steps at Governors State University.

    • Confirm your Enrollment

      Newly admitted students who plan to attend Governors State University must confirm their plans to enroll by submitting the Enrollment Confirmation form with a $150 enrollment deposit. The enrollment deposit will apply toward your tuition for your first semester.

      The deadline to submit your enrollment confirmation and deposit is May 1.  Students admitted after the deadline will have three weeks after their date of admission to submit their Enrollment Confirmation found here and deposit.

    • Evaluation and Processing

      The early action deadline for first year students is November 15. Those students with applications in by that deadline will have an admission decision by January 31. Applications will be open for first year students until April 1. Students who apply after the November 15 early action deadline will be notified after February 15 of their admission decision.

    • Smart Start Program

      +

      Some students may be required to attend Smart Start. Check your letter of admission to determine if you are required. If you have not been chosen for Smart Start, you are welcome to opt in. Inquire with the Office of Admission at 708-534-4490 or admission@govst.edu for more details.

    • Placement Testing

      +

      Governors State University provides the ALEKS Mathematics Placement Assessment and the English Writing Activity to students admitted for smart start.
