Multicultural Community: Citizenship and Constitution Day Celebration

GSU Constitution Day activities will be held on September 15, from noon to 1 p.m. and 6 to 7 p.m., in Engbretson Hall.

Vincent Jones, Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice, will discuss Citizenship. Dr. Elizabeth Johnson, Assistant Professor of Social Science, will discuss Multiculturalism in Higher Education.

This event is free and open to the public. It is sponsored by ARC, CAS, the Intellectual Life Committee, and Student Life.

Congratulations to Dr. Pam Guimond on the Faculty Excellence Award.

Winners of this year’s Faculty Excellence Awards were announced at Convocation on August 18, 2011. Dr. Maimon presented the awards to Dr. Lisa Chang, Professor of Math Education in the College of Education; Dr. Pamela Guimond, Assistant Professor of Biology Education and Advisor for Secondary Education in the College of Arts and Sciences; and Dr. Roberta O’Shea, Associate Professor of Physical Therapy in the College of Health and Human Services.

GSU Plans Events Commemorating 9-11

GSU is commemorating the 10th anniversary of 9-11 with a series of public events on Monday, September 12.

Bells on the university carillon will toll from 9 to 9:30 a.m. and a color guard will be posted at the main entrance. A public discussion is scheduled from noon to 1 p.m., in Engbretson Hall. The events are sponsored by the Academic Resource Center, Student Life, and Veteran’s Affairs. For information, call 708.2345.2228.

Stories about “Where Were You on 9-11?” will be read from 1 to 3 p.m., in Sherman Hall. Commemorative stories were submitted to Reinhold Hill, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences.

All events are free and open to the public.

Building Diversity, Unity, and Equality

GSU’s Gay-Straight Alliance will hold its inaugural meeting on Thursday, September 8 from 3 to 4 p.m., in Room E2590. The organization is dedicated to building diversity, unity, and equality on campus.
