The College of Health and Human Services offers excellent academic programs, and program accreditations reflect that excellence.
What is Accreditation?
An assurance of quality.
Accreditation is an important mechanism for ensuring the College’s academic programs meet the high professional standards set by the professions students will enter after graduation.
Programs are accredited through outside agencies that govern the educational standards for the professions they represent. For example, the College’s Master of Health Administration program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Management Education (CAHME) and is the only state supported MHA program so accredited in Illinois. That means the MHA program in the College of Health and Human Services meets standards that similar, but unaccredited, programs may not.
Licensure or Certification
Some programs must be accredited by the appropriate agency for their students to be eligible to take licensing examinations or to be certified after graduation. For example, the College’s Master of Social Work program is accredited through the Counsel on Social Work Education (CSWE). Most states require graduation from a program accredited by CSWE before a student will be eligible for licensure.
Every program in the College of Health and Human Services that requires accreditation for licensure or certification is properly accredited.
University Accreditation
Accreditations of degree programs are in addition to accreditation for the University. Governors State University is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools.
