The Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education empowers you to successfully begin your career as a classroom teacher for grades kindergarten through nine.
The program is fully approved by the Illinois State Board of Education to prepare you for the Illinois Type 03 Certificate.
Professional education courses provide a strong preparation in professional skills and dispositions. A firm foundation in general education courses expands your knowledge of elementary school curricula and your ability to understand your students and their communities.
This innovative, high-quality program offers a combination of classroom instruction and pre-student teaching field experiences, leading to a capstone supervised student teaching experience.

Completion of this program (and compliance with other requirements published in the "Teacher Certification" section of the Governors State University catalog) leads to the Illinois Type 03 Elementary Certificate for grades K-9. Middle grades endorsements are available for a variety of subject matters; check with your academic advisor. Individuals applying for the certificate or the endorsement are subject to state testing requirements.
