    Rhodes Scholarship

    The Rhodes Scholarship Trust is designed to enable students of outstanding intellectual, moral, and leadership ability to pursue a second bachelor’s or a master’s degree in science, the humanities, or social science at Oxford University. The scholarship provides payment of tuition and fees, plus a living stipend and is tenable for a minimum of 2 and maximum of 3 years. Each year 32 U.S. citizens are selected as Rhodes Scholars. Candidates may apply in 1 region only; either that in which they have their permanent home address or ordinary place of residence/employment, or that in which they are studying. Crucial factors in the selection include literary and scholastic attainments, integrity of character, interest in and respect for one’s fellow beings, and the ability to lead.

    Eligibility

    • U.S. Citizen
    • Have completed 2 years of full-time undergraduate or postgraduate study
    • Between the ages of 18 and 23 at the year of application
    • Be eligible to receive a bachelor’s degree before beginning at Oxford

    Mitchell Scholarship

    The Mitchell Scholarship supports young Americans of high ability to study for a degree in Ireland. Scholarship recipients receive support for 1 academic year of post-graduate study in any discipline offered at institutions in Ireland and Northern Ireland. Students with a strong record of scholarship, leadership, and commitment to service are encouraged to apply. Approximately 12 students are selected as Mitchell scholars each year. Candidates may apply in one region only, either that in which they have their permanent home address or ordinary place of residence/employment, or that in which they are studying. Crucial factors include, a candidate’s choice of course, choice of university and academic and personal aptitude.

    • Plan to study in a program at an institution in Ireland or Northern Ireland

    Marshall Scholarship

    The Marshall Scholarships support young Americans of high ability to study for a degree in the United Kingdom. A Marshall Scholarship is tenable for 2 academic years, but may be extended to a third year by the commission on a limited basis. Candidates are invited to indicate 2 preferred universities, but interest in studying at universities other than Oxford and Cambridge are particularly welcomed. At least 40 students are selected as Marshal scholars each year. Candidates may apply in one region only- either that in which they have their permanent home address or ordinary place of residence/ employment, or that in which they are studying. Crucial factors include a candidate’s choice of course, choice of university, and academic and personal aptitude.

    Fulbright Scholarship

    The Fulbright Scholarship provides individually designed grants for U.S. graduating seniors, graduate students, young professionals, and artists to study abroad for one academic year. Grant benefits include round-trip transportation to the host country; funding to cover room, board, and incidental costs, based on the cost of living in the host country; and 12 months of non-competitive eligibility (NCE) hiring status within the federal government. Crucial factors in the selection include literary and scholastic attainments, integrity of character, interest in and respect for one’s fellow beings, and the ability to lead.

    Eligibility

    • U.S. Citizen
    • Must have a conferred bachelor’s degree before the start of the grant. In the creative and performing arts, four years of professional training and/or experience meets the basic eligibility requirement
    • Must meet the language requirements of the award to which they are applying and demonstrate sufficient competency to complete their project and adjust to life in the host country.

    Schwarzman Scholarship

    Schwarzman Scholarship is a fully-funded, one-year master’s degree and leadership program at Tsinghua University in Beijing, China. At the heart of the program are world-renowned advisers, a rigorous and innovative study of global affairs, and hands-on exploration of Chinese culture and commerce. Scholars will receive a comprehensive scholarship, including: tuition and fees, room and board, transportation to and from Beijing, books and supplies, health insurance, and a stipend for personal expenses. Crucial factors in the selection include literary and scholastic attainments, integrity of character, interest in and respect for one’s fellow beings, and the ability to lead.

    Eligibility

    • Must have an undergraduate degree prior to travel
    • Between the ages of 18 and 29
    • Proficient in the English language

    Gates Cambridge Scholarship

    The Gates Cambridge Scholarship is a grant provided to full-time postgraduate students pursuing any subject offered at the University of Cambridge. Approximately two-thirds of these awards will be offered to PhD students, with approximately 25 awards available in the US round and 55 available in the International round. The scholarship covers the full cost of studying at Cambridge, as well as the University Composition Fee at the appropriate rate; a maintenance allowance for a single student; airfare costs to and from the country; inbound visa costs, and the cost of the Immigration Health Surcharge. Crucial factors in the selection include literary and scholastic attainments, integrity of character, interest in and respect for one’s fellow beings, and the ability to lead.

    Eligibility

    • A citizen of any country outside the United Kingdom
    • Applying to pursue one of the following full-time residential courses of study at the University of Cambridge: PhD, MSc/MLitt, one year postgraduate course (with some exceptions- see below)
    • Courses NOT eligible for scholarship: Any Undergraduate degree such as BA (undergraduate) or BA affiliated (a second BA); Business Doctorate (BusD); Master of Business (MBA); Master of Finance (MFin); PGCE; MBBChir Clinical Studies; MD Doctor of Medicine degree (6 years, part-time); Graduate Course in Medicine (A101); Part-time degrees; Non-degree courses​

    Gilman Scholarship

    The Gilman Scholarship Program enables students of limited financial means to study or intern abroad, providing them with skills critical to our national security and economic prosperity. Veterans of military service are encouraged to apply, and preference is given to veterans when other factors are equivalent. These scholarships provide payment of program tuition, room and board, books, local transportation, insurance, international airfare, passport and visa fees. Over 3,600 scholarships of up to $5,000 will be awarded this academic year for U.S. citizen undergraduates to study or intern abroad. Applicants who are studying a critical need language while abroad can apply for a supplemental award of up to $3,000, for a combined total of $8,000. The Critical Need Language Award is competitive and offered to a limited number of Gilman scholars each year.

    • Undergraduate student in good standing at an accredited institution of higher education
    • Receiving a Federal Pell Grant during the time of application OR proof that they will be receiving a Pell Grant during the term of their study abroad program or internship
    • In the process of applying to/accepting a credit-bearing study abroad or internship program, or a virtual international program of at least 2 weeks for community college students and 3 weeks for students from four-year institutions

    JET Program

    The Japan Exchange and Teaching Program is a competitive employment opportunity that allows young professionals to live and work in cities, towns, and villages throughout Japan. Being a JET is an opportunity to work and to represent the United States as cultural ambassadors to Japan. Most participants serve as Assistant Language Teachers (ALTs) and work in public and private schools throughout Japan; some work as Coordinators for International Relations (CIRs) as interpreters/translators. Crucial factors in the selection include literary and scholastic attainments, integrity of character, interest in and respect for one’s fellow beings, and the ability to lead.

    Eligibility

    • Be a citizen of the United States by the application deadline
    • Hold at least a bachelor’s degree or obtain such qualifications by the designated date prior to departure
    • Have the ability to adapt to living and working conditions in Japan
    • Have excellent standard pronunciation, rhythm, intonation in the English language
    • Have not participated in the JET Program, and have not declined a position with the JET Program
    • Not have lived in Japan for a total of six (6) or more years in the past ten (10) years
    • Have an interest maintaining some type of relations with Japan, even after program completion
    • Additional eligibility requirements are dependent on ALT or CIR application

    Truman Scholarship

    The Truman Scholarship Foundation supports students dedicated to a career in public service. In displaying excellent leadership and services, recipients will receive $30,000 towards graduate school. Additionally, scholars are brought to Washington D.C. to participate in an internship with the federal government or a nationally focused, nonprofit organization. Crucial factors in the selection of Truman Scholars include literary and scholastic attainments, integrity of character, interest in and respect for one’s fellow beings, and the ability to lead.

    Udall Scholarship

    The Udall Foundation awards scholarships to college sophomores and juniors for leadership, public service, and commitment to issues related to Native American nations or to the environment. In 2021, the Udall Foundation anticipates awarding 55 scholarships of up to $7,000 each. Crucial factors in the selection include literary and scholastic attainments, integrity of character, interest in and respect for one’s fellow beings, and the ability to lead.

    • Identified as Native American, Alaskan native, OR interest in environmental sciences

    Goldwater Scholarship

    The Barry Goldwater Scholarship & Excellence In Education program was established to encourage the growth of well-trained scientists, mathematicians and engineers. This is done by the annual award of scholarships to college students intending to pursue research in these fields. Students are awarded up to $7500 per year for a maximum of 2 years to cover tuition, fees, books, and room and board. Crucial factors in the selection include literary and scholastic attainments, integrity of character, interest in and respect for one’s fellow beings, and the ability to lead.

    Eligibility

    • U.S. Citizen or U.S. Permanent Resident
    • Have completed 2 years of full-time undergraduate or postgraduate study (College Sophomore or Junior in STEM)
    • Studying mathematics, natural sciences, or engineering
    • 3.7 GPA minimum
    • Prior research experience
    • Must have intention to pursue doctoral degree in one of the listed disciplines

    Boren Scholarships

    Awards fund study abroad by U.S. undergraduate students, as well as research and language study proposals by U.S. graduate students in world regions critical to U.S. interests. Maximum awards (determined by duration abroad) for U.S. undergraduates are: up to $25,000 for 25-52 weeks, $12,500 for 12-24 weeks, and $8,000 for 8-11 weeks (STEM majors only). Maximum awards (determined by duration abroad) for U.S. graduate students are: up to $25,000 for 25-52 weeks, $12,500 for 12-24 weeks, and $12,000 for domestic language study (optional). Crucial factors in the selection include literary and scholastic attainments, integrity of character, interest in and respect for one’s fellow beings, and the ability to lead.

    Eligibility

    • U.S. citizens at the time of the national application deadline
    • Planning an overseas program in a country outside of Western Europe, Canada, Australia, or New Zealand
    • Planning to study in a country of which they are not a citizen
    • Matriculated for the duration of their Boren Awards-funded program in an undergraduate or graduate degree program located within the United States and accredited by a body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education
    • (For ROTC cadets and midshipmen and members of the military Reserves or National Guard) In inactive, non-drilling status for the duration of their Boren Awards-funded program
    • Graduate Students have additional guidelines for self-designed research, internship, and study programs
