Geoffrey Bates, director and curator for GSU’s Nathan Manilow Sculpture Park, was honored March 8 by the Tall Grass Arts Association at its Beaux Arts Ball.
Bates was honored not only for bringing greater exposure to the sculpture park and raising its profile to national prominence, but for his support of the arts as a whole throughout the South Suburbs. Bates has served as a juror and participant at other arts associations’ events. He also hosted a GSU tour to a sculpture exhibit at Tall Grass in Park Forest.
The association expressed “its warmest appreciation to Geoff Bates for his creative leadership in the arts and his great generosity in sharing his talents.” Now that GSU will have its first student residence open in the fall, a recurring theme is to have our students live and study in art. Geoff Bates has been instrumental in making that happen.
GSU president, Elaine P. Maimon, was similarly honored by the Tall Grass Arts Association in 2009.
