GSU to host autism workshop

Governors State University will present a workshop to help loved ones of those who are on the autism spectrum understand the difficulty they may have in processing and analyzing information they need to achieve educational standards recently adopted in Illinois.

The workshop will be held on Friday, March 28, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in room F1622. The workshop will be led by Timothy P. Kowalski, a speech and language pathologist and internationally known expert on Asperger Syndrome.

The workshop will analyze goals that take into account the challenges such students face and discuss techniques and strategies that help them succeed.

Immediately following the presentation, there will be a question and answer session along with a discussion lead by Governors State staff regarding best practices for specific situations that arise where assistance might be needed.

For professionals, use the registration code CE-PPEH01-01. There is a $50 charge. The workshop is free for GSU faculty, staff and students. They are to use the code CE-PPEH01-02 when registering. Verification will be required.
