Dr. Judy Mitchell, President Emerita, Joliet Junior College, and GovState Alumna

Dr. Judy Mitchell is an accomplished academic and community leader with a strong educational foundation and extensive experience in higher education administration. She earned her MBA in 2004 and BA in 2001 from Governors State University, participating in GovState's Dual Degree Program, after completing two Associate’s Degrees at Joliet Junior College.

Dr. Mitchell is the former President of Joliet Junior College, Interim President of the Romeoville Chamber of Commerce, and Interim Vice President of Administrative Affairs at Oakton College. During her tenure at Joliet Junior College, the institution received the Government Finance Officers Association’s Distinguished Budget Presentation Award. In 2021, Dr. Mitchell was honored with the Gary W. Davis Ethical Leadership Award from the Illinois Community College Trustees Association. And in 2023, the Alumni Association at GovState awarded Dr. Mitchell the Distinguished Alumni Award for the College of Business.

In addition to her professional achievements, Dr. Mitchell is dedicated to community service. She has served on numerous boards, including the Silver Cross Hospital Board, the Will County Habitat for Humanity Board, and Workforce Services of Will County, as well as past involvement with the Centers for Economic Development for Will and Grundy Counties.

We honor Dr. Mitchell for maintaining her mission to serve our communities and advance higher education!

Interdisciplinary Studies Alumni Event

 


INLD 10 Year Celebration of Alumni, Faculty and Students

In celebration of its 10th year of creating educational and non-profit leaders, the Interdisciplinary Leadership Doctorate (INLD) Program at GovState hosted a 3-day event on March 3-5, 2022. During the three days, they held a research symposium to support graduate students, hosted an alumni, student, and faculty networking event where the GovState community was able to meet connect and engage with the full INLD community, and organized a program meeting where alumni offered professional and academic insight to current students, and faculty provided additional support and guidance to current students as they matriculate through the program.
