On December 7, 2015, Governors State University College of Business Faculty and Staff approved the  Vision 2020 Strategic Plan Goals and Objectives. The College of Business Strategic Management Committee regularly reviews the plan, action items, milestones, responsible individuals, and key performance indicator (KPI's).

  • Goal 1 - Academic Excellence


    Goal 1. Academic Excellence: Provide distinctive academic programs that effectively prepare students to become leaders and productive citizens in the global community. 

    1.1 Ensure that academic programs are up to date and relevant, and aligned with professional and discipline standards.

    1.2 Enhance College of Business programs through the incorporation of diverse inter-disciplinary perspectives, global awareness, and cross-cultural competence.

    1.3 Maintain or develop academic programs that respond to regional, state, national, and international economic development, employment needs and student interests. 

  • Goal 2 - Student Success


    Goal 2. Student Success: Provide a seamless and supportive pathway from admission to graduation focused on personal and academic success to help ensure that students are career ready and positioned to be leaders and citizens in the community.

    2.1 Identify and implement recruitment and retention strategies that attract and retain high quality students in undergraduate and graduate programs.

    2.2 Develop a comprehensive Academic Advising model to transition students into quality program-based advising.

    2.3 Promote high quality learning opportunities through curricular, co-curricular and extracurricular activities, such as experiential learning, internships, international learning experiences, civic engagement and service learning.  

  • Goal 3 - High Quality Faculty and Staff


    Goal 3. High Quality Faculty and Staff: Provide students access to a highly qualified, motivated, and diverse faculty and staff.

     3.1 Develop and implement plans and processes to hire faculty with qualifications that meet program needs and accreditation requirements. 

     3.2 Develop and implement plans and processes to retain high quality Unit A faculty through professional development and rewards for exceptional work.

    3.3 Define the College’s scholarship mission and assure its accomplishment.

    3.4 Strategically employ and effectively support non-tenure track faculty and adjuncts to address program and student needs.

  • Goal 4 - Enrollment Management


    Goal 4. Enrollment Management:  Develop and implement strategic initiatives with respect to admissions, recruitment, retention, and graduation rates of undergraduate and graduate students at Governors State University.

    4.1 Plan and implement a College of Business enrollment management strategy that focuses on optimizing the enrollment, retention and graduation of a diverse undergraduate student body:
    4.2 Implement a comprehensive graduate enrollment strategy that focuses on optimizing the enrollment of a diverse and well-prepared student body.

  • Goal 5 - Financial Growth and Resiliency


    Goal 5. Financial Growth and Resiliency: Diversify GSU’s revenue streams to ensure resources that are necessary for institutional growth and fiscal sustainability.

    5.1 Increase external support for College of Business academic programs to enhance scholarship support, programs, and faculty development.

    5.2 Enhance external support for College of Business academic programs and services through grants and continuing education programs.

  • Goal 6 - Visibility, Outreach, and Economic Catalyst


     Goal 6. Visibility, Outreach, and Economic Catalyst: Pursue initiatives that make GSU a preferred destination in the region for cultural, social, economic and continuing education pursuits, enhance collaboration between GSU and its communities, position GSU as a leader and partner in vibrant public dialogue, and increase the university's effectiveness as an economic catalyst in the region.

    6.1 Develop relationships with businesses and the community that support students and academic programs and involve faculty, staff, and students in solving real world problems.

    6.2 Create opportunities to offer institutional expertise to help solve regional problems.

    6.3 Nurture and enhance COB’s identity as a center for excellence in academic knowledge, research and collaboration.


  • Goal 7 - Social, Ethical, and Environmental Responsibility


    Goal 7. Social, Ethical, and Environmental Responsibility: Build an institution that is socially, ethically, and environmentally responsible.

    7.1 Create opportunities for civic engagement and community service with particular emphasis on citizens historically underserved by higher education.

    7.2 Demonstrate through College of Business sponsored initiatives and academic programs a commitment to ethics, inclusiveness, and diversity.

  • Goal 8 - Continuous Improvement


    Goal 8. Continuous Improvement: Develop and sustain a climate of continuous improvement that is defined by evidence-based decision-making focused on enriching the student experience.

    8.1 Establish or maintain continuous improvement processes to achieve the college mission through strategic planning and continued active faculty participation in college governance.
