The Civil Service Senate shall advise on the specific decisions which may be made under any of these policies and procedures in a manner which shall be set forth in the Bylaws of the Civil Service Senate. This advisement shall be limited to those decisions not specifically covered or stipulated by a ratified Civil Service union agreement and those not in the process of bargaining.

The Senate shall maintain all powers and responsibilities, as assigned in the Governors State University Constitution and the Civil Service Senate Bylaws.

    • The Civil Service Senate has regularly scheduled meetings on the 2nd Wednesday of each month at 11:00 am in D34000. All are welcome to attend.
    • The Civil Service Senate Executive Officers and Committee Chairpersons typically meet on Thursday two weeks prior to the monthly meeting at 11:00 am in D1496.

    Educational Assistance Award is awarded each semester. The Civil Service Senate offers up to three awards of $500 each to GSU Civil Service employees, their spouses or dependent children.

    "The Eric Nicholson Civil Service Employee Award" in honor of the late Eric Nicholson, who served on the Civil Service Senate for many years as well as in the GSU community. This award applies to Civil Service employees only.
    Eligible applicants for the Eric Nicholson Award must be enrolled in at least 3 credit hours and currently admitted into a degree program.

    The Civil Service Spouses and Dependent Children
    Eligible applicants for Spouses and Dependents (26 years and under) Educational Assistance Award
    must be enrolled in at least 6 credit hours and currently admitted into a degree program.

    The deadline to submit an application is announced when the application period is open for each semester.

    Faculty, staff and students are encouraged to nominate a Civil Service employee for their good deed or service.

    Complete the Employee Nomination Form and submit via email to Human Resource, or in person to C1360.

    The employee-of-the-month program is funded by the GovState Foundation.
