At Governors State University, we take
passion and purpose personally. We’re
invested in your forever. That’s why
we’ve created an immersive first-year
experience that allows you to seamlessly
transition from high school to college.
Our distinct approach to the university
experience doesn’t just prepare you for a
long-term career: it equips you to enter
the world as a leader.
Here, you are supported every step of the way.
Supporting students
is at the heart of our mission. We want your transition into university life to
be as easy as possible. That’s why we’ve designed numerous resources to ensure
you receive the support you
need at every stage. It
all starts with a visit to our Undergraduate Academic Advising Center where
you can connect with an advisor anytime. Need additional preparation? You can
find it through Smart Start,
our unique take on a bridge program. Or, for those who crave a challenge, our Honors College offers
an enriched
academic experience.
Completing college in four years is part of the GSU
experience.
Finishing your degree
in four years flat is
possible. Supportive advisors make sure you stay
the course so when the time comes to select a major, you’ll be well on your way
to degree completion. By following a guided pathway, you’ll be enrolled in full-time, daytime classes designed
to keep you on track to fulfilling the requirements of every undergraduate
program we offer. On a specific career trajectory? Consider following one of
our structured guided pathways to launch your career in the most efficient
way possible.
We know your strengths are the key to your success.
You know what makes
you you—and we want to know too! At GSU, we don’t just recognize your unique attributes—we
work with you to develop your strengths. Become the best you you can be
through our strengths-based
learning approach.
Your professors will know your name—and your classmates
will too.
Your accomplishments
will shine on our intimate campus.
As a freshman, you’re embedded in a learning community with
a network of peers. Together, you’ll
navigate the first three semesters of campus life. Each first-year class is capped at 30 students,
and all of our first-year instructors are full-time faculty members—so you’ll
know each of your professors and fellow students personally.
Mentorship prepares you for success after college.
Mentorship is essential to your success—and Gallup polls agree.
Research shows that long after you graduate, your professional engagement and
overall well-being are directly linked to meaningful relationships with your college mentors. We facilitate
these important bonds by providing every freshman class with a peer mentor: a specially selected and trained GSU student who has
successfully learned the ropes of freshman year. In addition, our low faculty-to-student ratio also ensures you’ll reap the benefits of individualized instruction and mentorship from faculty members who are leading scholars in their fields.
