FACULTY PROFILE

Dr. Byron Waller was born to a family on the west side of Chicago. He attended the Chicago Public Schools. While going to public school on the west side, he tested into Lane Tech High School where he graduated. After high school, he attended Moody Bible Institute and earned an associate's degree in Christian Education. He then completed his bachelor's degree from Grace College in Psychology. After several years of working in the helping profession, he was able to gain employment at Chicago State University. While working there, he earned his master's degree in Community Counseling.

After several years, he received the opportunity to teach psychology courses as he pursued entrance into a doctoral program. After applying to doctoral programs in Counseling and Psychology, he was accepted into the Loyola University Chicago doctoral program. Dr. Waller earned his doctoral degree from Loyola University Chicago in Counseling Psychology. He has been a counselor and counselor educator for more than 25 years.

Along with teaching and training, Dr. Waller practices as a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor working with children, adolescents, adults, families, and couples. Dr. Waller continues to teach and train counselors to be effective and competent counselors. He primarily teaches and supervises in the Clinical Mental Health concentration, but also the Counseling Education and Supervision doctoral program. Dr. Waller specializes in career development, international counseling, Christian counseling, spiritual counseling, multicultural and Black issues. Below are examples of his work.
