BIOGRAPHY
Dr. Carlos Ferran is a Full Professor of Accounting and Management Information Systems in the AFEM Division at Governors State University, where he has served since 2010. He earned his doctoral degrees from Boston University (D.B.A. in Management Information Systems) and Governors State University (Ed.D. in Higher Education Leadership), with his dissertations focusing on information adoption via videoconference and university presidents' perspectives on generative AI in higher education. His research expertise spans the effects of generative AI in academia, technology-mediated communications, accounting information systems, accreditation, assessment, and the digital divide. He teaches courses in financial accounting, managerial accounting, management information systems, and databases in online formats. Dr. Ferran has published 17 peer-reviewed journal articles, five book chapters, and 20 peer-reviewed conference proceedings, including a highly cited Management Science article on videoconferencing that garnered attention from over 150 news outlets within the first 60 days. He served as Director of Accreditation and Assessment for the College of Business (2019-2024) and is a peer reviewer for the Higher Learning Commission, ABET, Quality Matters, and MERLOT. He has taught and presented at universities in Argentina, China, Colombia, Costa Rica, Mexico, Panama, Spain, the United States, and Venezuela. He has taken students abroad to Poland, South Africa, and Panama. He speaks English and Spanish fluently and can have a conversation in French.
