FACULTY PROFILE
Dr. Deborah King is currently an assistant professor in the higher education administration concentration in the Interdisciplinary Leadership Doctoral (INLD) program at Governors State University. Dr. King has over 25 years of experience in education serving as a classroom teacher in secondary education, as well as multiple positions in higher education administration including at the executive level leadership. She has worked extensively in the fields of academic and student support, enrollment management, assessment, grant management, DEI, strategic planning, and compliance. Dr. King has successfully developed, managed, and evaluated various federal, state and privately funded programs throughout her career, securing over $30 million dollars of funding to support educational programming.
Beyond her professional roles, Dr. King has served as a member of the Peer Review Corps for the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) since 2014 and has maintained leadership positions in several professional organizations including West40 Intermediate Service Center and the Council for Opportunity in Education.
Dr. King holds a Ph.D. in Education from the University of New Mexico with an emphasis in Language, Literacy and Sociocultural Studies. Her research interests include retention, completion, assessment, DEI, and funding sustainability.
