FACULTY PROFILE
Erin
Simpson DrOT, MOT, OTR/L
Dr. Simpson has been with the
Governors State University Occupational Therapy Department since 2018. She
earned her BS in Elementary Education from Olivet Nazarene University in 2002
and taught elementary education for ten years. Desiring change, Dr. Simpson
went back to school to pursue a Master of Occupational Therapy and then a post
professional doctorate (DrOT) from GSU. While working on her DrOT, she
practiced OT as a clinician. Dr. Simpson’s passion for teaching kept her at GSU
after earning her DrOT. She joined the GSU faculty in 2018 as a visiting
professor and transitioned to Assistant Professor in 2019.
Leaving the elementary classroom
to pursue Occupational Therapy, Erin continues to view OT through the education
lens. Educating future occupational therapists merges her passion for teaching with
her heart for practicing occupational therapy. For Dr. Simpson, helping students
solve problems and teaching the skills needed to succeed are the most rewarding
parts of academia.
Her
active research agenda examines student success both in the classroom and on
the national board exam. It provides wonderful opportunities to collaborate
with faculty and increase student success. She has presented her research at
national (AOTA) and state (ILOTA) conferences. Dr. Simpson serves on GSU’s
Graduate Council and CHHS Curriculum Committee. She also co-Chairs Research and
is the OT Department Admissions Coordinator.
