BIOGRAPHY
Karen Blackman is a purpose-driven leader whose academic and
professional journey reflects a deep commitment to equity, education, and
institutional transformation. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and
a Master of Public Administration from the Illinois Institute of Technology,
and she is currently completing her Doctor of Education (EdD) at Governors
State University.
With a foundation in behavioral science, public systems, and
organizational leadership, Karen brings a unique, interdisciplinary lens to her
work in higher education. Her career has focused on bridging policy with
practice, advancing inclusive leadership, and creating sustainable pathways for
student and faculty success. Her current doctoral research explores The
Influence of Culturally Responsive Support Spaces on the Sense of Belonging and
Academic Persistence of African American Students at Private Predominantly
White Institutions (PWIs) —work that blends Critical Race Theory and Validation
Theory.
Karen speaks with clarity, conviction, and a grounded sense
of purpose. Whether leading institutional strategy, designing culturally
responsive programs, or amplifying underrepresented voices, she centers people
at the heart of progress and believes that when we honor lived experience, we
create spaces where real change can take root.
