FACULTY PROFILE
Dr. Raushanah Jackson is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and Assistant Professor of Counseling at Governors State University. She holds a PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision from Northern Illinois University. Her clinical and academic expertise centers on trauma-informed relational therapy, the development of counselor identity, and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) as a model for healing attachment wounds in couples and families.
Dr. Jackson’s scholarship explores how clinicians—particularly those from historically marginalized backgrounds—experience belonging and professional identity within training and organizational contexts. Her dissertation, “An Exploration of the Sense of Belonging for African American Women Licensed Clinicians in a Voluntary Professional Counseling Organization,” reflects her commitment to equity in counselor education and the mental health field. She continues to build upon this work by investigating how race, culture, and systemic factors intersect with relationship-focused therapy models and supervision practices.
A certified EFT therapist and trauma specialist, Dr. Jackson brings over 15 years of clinical experience in diverse settings, including military settings, schools, community clinics, and private practice. Her presentations and workshops have addressed trauma-informed discipleship, social media and mental health, and the importance of inclusive supervision structures. Dr. Jackson is especially interested in mentoring future counselors through embodied, relational, and culturally responsive approaches to training and supervision.
