Background
Established in the early 1980s, the Addictions Studies Master’s Degree offered by Governors State University was one of the first graduate programs in the nation. From its inception, the program has provided students with the knowledge and skills in evidence-based practices, important to becoming highly effective addiction counselors. Our Advisory Board, representing leaders in the field of substance use and other behavioral health disorders, provides the program with information and feedback critical to addressing emerging policy and treatment issues.
What is the Addiction Studies Advisory Council?
The ASBH Advisory Council is a Community Champion for the Department of Addiction Studies and Behavioral Health (ASBH) at Governors State University (GovState). It acts as a sounding board for the Department Chair and faculty. The Advisory Council members provide professional expertise, recommendations, field intelligence, and guidance to the ASBH leadership and faculty. The Advisory Council is only advisory and is not involved in the governance of ASBH at GovState. Governors State University’s mission to provide an exceptional and accessible education drives every decision at the university.
