Here are the steps to get you started:
Start thinking about your reason for study abroad. Take into
consideration the term that will work for you, your major, where you
would like to study and if the location and program offerings will
benefit your academic and professional career. GSU recommends that you study abroad through one of our affiliated program providers. One way in which you
can filter through the options and narrow down your preferences is
through the affiliated provider websites. If you do not find what you are looking for, you can also search a larger database on the website Institute
of International Education. You can also search study abroad reviews at Study Abroad 101.
Make an appointment with the OIS Associate Director, Rene Gosch, to discuss your options and the next steps.
Complete your GSU Study Abroad Application which includes
getting course approval from your GSU Advisor and Dean by having
him/her fill out the Study Abroad Course Approval Form, located in
the application packet. Meet with the Financial Aid Office to
determine how financial aid may apply to the program abroad.
Upon confirmation from GSU that you are eligible to study
abroad and your credits will transfer, you can apply to the
independent study abroad program.
Upon confirmation of participation from the independent study
abroad program, students must submit a copy of their passport to
OIS. The Study Abroad Coordinator will also assist the student in
purchasing international health insurance through GSU and help prepare the student for departure.
Students can apply for the GSU Study Abroad Scholarship
located in the general application packet. Check with OIS on the scholarship application deadlines.
