Governors State University offers several services for first-year writing students.

Writing Center

Writing consultants working in GovState’s Writing Center are available for one-on-one appointments in the Academic Resource Center (Room B1215) and quick consultations in the library. The writing center also offers online submission of essays and a variety of workshops designed to help students become stronger writers. Please visit the Writing Center’s Website for more details about these services.

Supplemental Instructors

Some sections of Writing Studies 1 and 2 are paired with Supplemental Instructors—peer mentors who are available to work with students during class and to meet with them outside of class. Supplemental Instructors work closely with the instructor for their assigned section, so they are familiar with the assignments and faculty expectations. They are a great resource for students who would like to perform at a higher level in these two courses.

American Language and Culture Institute

For students who are non-native speakers of English, the American Language and Culture Institute offers services and support designed to assist students in succeeding in their work.
