GovState verifies the identify of students enrolled in
online courses through the use of a single sign-on protocol, that per
Instructional Technology Services (ITS) policy,
requires student users to change their password every 180 days. Online course delivery occurs through use of
the GovState learning management system Blackboard. By using a single sign-on system
students must use the university issued user-name and password to enter the
course portal. Additionally, faculty teaching online courses are required to only
use university issued email addresses or the university supported online
learning system for all courses and communication with students. All faculty
must complete FERPA training which requires them to verify that they understand
and abide by all student identification and privacy rules.
