“The Mindful Path to Joy”
College of Education and Human Development Homecoming Dinner
Date: Monday, October 28, 2024
Time: 6 p.m.
Location: Engbretson Hall, Governors State University
The College of Education and Human Development is excited about welcoming alumni, community members, faculty, staff, and students to our third annual Homecoming reception and dinner on Monday, October 28, 2024. Please join us!
Our theme for the evening is The Mindful Path to Joy. Have been you been feeling stressed and anxious in your daily life? These days many people do. When stress is chronic, we can lose touch with the joy of life. Mindfulness offers an intentional path to rediscover the joy and motivation for life. Mindfulness, the state of active, open attentiveness to the present moment, can help us to experience joy at three different levels: physical-sensual (appreciating the little things in our lives), social-relational, (the energy that arises with connecting with others), and spiritual-existential (the sense of resilience in overcoming difficulties). Come join us for the homecoming dinner and learn about how to use mindfulness to experience greater joy in all its levels.
Special Guest Speaker
Dr. Tim Pedigo, Associate Professor of Psychology
Dr. Pedigo publishes and teaches on the effects of mindfulness and compassion on social/emotional functioning.
