Dr. Keith W. Smith Higher Education Scholarship
Dr. Keith Smith was the founding administrative vice president of the Governors State University. It was he who managed the process which produced the campus and the university building itself. The scholarship was created to support students who wish to work in higher education (teaching, research, administration, etc.)
Your donation to this scholarship can make the difference for one of our students as they juggle competing responsibilities and attempt to complete their degree to move forward in a rewarding and successful career in higher education.

Eligibility:
- Must be a graduate student in good academic standing
- Must document financial need
- Must be a U.S. citizen and a resident of Illinois
- Must show proof of preparation for and desire to pursue a career in higher education; this may be in research, teaching, or administration.
Documents Required:
- Essay (500 to 1000 words) is to document financial need, record of scholarship, and career goals, along with a brief biography
- Recommendation letters are suggested, but not required.
Award Information:
Two awards at 1000 dollars each.
Note: Award amounts may vary based on funding, availability, and addition, if any, to principal. Amount awarded shall not exceed tuition costs.
