New Leaders Mentor Program
Mentoring can be defined as an experienced
person sharing their knowledge, skills knowledge,
skills, and support with another person to help them to progress.
Governors State University School of Extended Learning’s New
Leaders Mentor Program (NLMP) provides a system of support to educational
leaders who are new to their position.
(Principals, Directors, Coordinators, Deans, Instructional Coaches,
etc.) Each new leader is matched one-on-one with an experienced administrator
as their mentor who will work closely with the new administrator to help
promote success. Mentoring services for the school year are hybrid and will run
from August through May. Mentors will meet virtually with their proteges in
their district or at an agreed location, for a minimum of 50 hours throughout
the school year. New Leaders and Mentors also participate virtually in monthly professional
development for discussions and presentations on topics relevant to their
practice. An Administrator Academy
Course per school year is also offered.
NLMP is also approved by Illinois State Board of Education to offer new first
and second year principals support at no cost to the district.
