Federal Work-Study (FWS)
In the Federal Work-Study program,
it is your responsibility to find a job on campus. All on-campus student employment jobs are posted on the
Jobs for Jaguars (Handshake) site. Pay rates for FWS positions will be at least minimum wage but may be higher depending on the position and the skills required. More information about the Federal Work-Study program can be found on the
Federal Student Aid website.
How to apply for Federal Work-Study (FWS) Positions:
- In order to apply for FWS positions, you must have completed a FASFA and been deemed eligible by the Department of Education based on the results of your application. If you are offered FWS funds and wish to apply for FWS positions, please go to the GovState Self-Service platform to review and accept the FWS award that was offered to you.
- Visit Jobs for Jaguars (Handshake) to complete a profile and search for available positions.
- Once you find a position you would like to apply for, follow the instructions for that specific job description and send the required documents to the contact person listed.
- Wait for an interview to be extended from the hiring manager. Note: Neither the Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships nor the Office of Career Services review applications or schedule appointments for open positions; this is all handled by the hiring manager/department.
- If you are hired for a FWS position, hiring paperwork must be completed:
- The hiring manager will initiate a Student Employee Contract, which will be reviewed and processed through various departments including the Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships and the Office of Human Resources.
- The student must contact the Office of Human Resources to complete the required paperwork
- All hiring paperwork and the Student Employee Contract must be fully processed before starting work.
Regular Student Employment
Regular Student Employment positions do not require FWS eligibility. Jobs accepting applications for Regular Student Employment will be posted on the
Jobs for Jaguars (Handshake) site.

Graduate Assistantships
Graduate Assistantships (GAs) are a way for a graduate student to work on campus and gain valuable experience while funding their education. Typically, graduate students must be enrolled in at least 6 credit hours per semester and work on campus between 15-20 hours per week. In return, GAs receive a monthly stipend and a tuition waiver. GAs are appointed each semester and renewable based on maintaining academic eligibility and employment performance standards.
